CHC42021 Certificate IV in Community Services is a nationally recognised qualification
To be awarded CHC42021 Certificate IV in Community Services, a student must successfully complete a total of fifteen (15) units of competency, consisting of:
- seven (7) core units, and;
- eight (8) elective units

Alternative suitable electives are only available via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT).

To achieve this qualification, a student must demonstrate skills in a workplace setting required to meet assessment conditions.

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements that are necessary for you to complete your course work and be successful:
- Students will need to demonstrate that they have the appropriate language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills
- Effective communication, documentation and research skills
- Access to digital technologies (e.g. laptop, desktop, tablet-computer and/or smartphone) with basic digital literacy skills.
Students undertaking a blended and/or online virtual training will require the additional digital skills and technologies:
Digital literacy skills – Intermediate computer skills such as internet browsing, email, word processing, and presentation software
Workstation setup
You will need a quiet space for study that has stable internet connection. You will also need:
- Web camera, microphone and speakers
- Smartphone
- Earbuds or headphones
- Zoom video conferencing software.
Please note: You will need to turn your camera and microphone on, as required when using video conferencing.
Assessment conditions
To achieve this qualification, a student must demonstrate skills in a workplace setting required to meet assessment conditions.

Virtual (day or night) – Study with a mix of real time online instructor-led sessions via video conferencing, supplemented with guided activities via the Learning Management System (eLearning)
Victoria – One (1) night per week (5:30pm – 9:00pm AEST/AEDT) or;
Victoria – One (1) day per week (9:30am – 01:00pm AEST/AEDT)
South Australia – One (1) night per week (5:30pm – 9:00pm AEST/ACDT) or;
