NDIS Employment Support Fundamentals is designed to enhance provider capability and cultivate a workforce that champions the employment aspirations of people supported by the NDIS.

Providers will gain a holistic understanding of the key stakeholders, co-designing pathways to mainstream employment, the essential resources for employers, and how to promote workplace adjustments and customised roles. By completion, they will be career transition specialists able to effectively support NDIS Participants to achieve mainstream, open employment outcomes.

NDIS Employment Support Fundamentals is tailored for supported employment providers, DES and those providing employment assistance.

It was created in response to challenges outlined by government and the need to improve the sector through:

  • Effective exploration of participants, families, allies and employers.
  • Understanding and accessing the full ecosystem of support.
  • Establishing diverse pathways that foster the transition towards employment.
  • Enhancing the collaboration between NDIS and DES providers.
  • Delivering tailored support using principles from customised and supported employment practices.
  • Utilizing effective techniques for building rapport and trust with participants.
  • Strategically engaging families, allies, and employers to support employment goals.

NDIS Employment Support Fundamentals includes the following five modules and can be completed online at your own pace in approximately 10 hours.

  1. Connecting to your why
    Discover the benefits of employment and connect to your why. Identify key stakeholders & allies, and redefine employment
  2. Building an holistic understanding
    Learn how to get to know the key allies, and adopt proven techniques in building trust, empathy, and a holistic understanding
  3. Co-designing pathways to work
    Review what you have learned, identify the chosen career & barriers to success, explore the ecosystem of support, and co-design the pathways to work including custimised employment.
  4. Finding and keeping a job
    Review your existing networks, prepare for the interview, engage employers and support the person to find their ideal job
  5. Trauma, burnout & self-care
    Understand trauma, its prevalence in the population, the profound effects it has on individuals, and the unique challenges faced by people with disabilities. Identify causes of burnout and vicarious trauma and link knowledge to the person-centred approach to servicing

Upon completion of NDIS Employment Support Fundamentals, you will be awarded a microcredential.

There are no entry requirements for this microcredential. To complete the course, you will need basic digital literacy skills and access to a laptop, desktop computer or full-size tablet that is connected to the internet.
