Safe Mealtimes, Confident Support
Build confidence in supporting individuals with dysphagia by learning safe mealtime practices, recognising swallowing difficulties and responding to choking emergencies.
Learners will gain an understanding of the following:
- Meaning and implications of Dysphagia
- Normal and abnormal swallow
- Signs and symptoms of Dysphagia
- Types of modified food and fluids
- Importance of modified foods and fluids
- Position and feeding a person
- Provide emergency first-aid treatment to a choking person
This course is 3.5hrs in length and can be delivered virtually or face to face.
This course is suitable for support workers and carers who provide mealtime support to individuals with dysphagia, particularly those with disabilities. Participants are expected to actively engage in the training and apply the knowledge to support safe eating and drinking practices. No prior specialist knowledge is required.
This training ensures that support workers and/or carers can confidently recognise and respond to swallowing difficulties, support safe eating and drinking practices, and contribute to the overall well-being of individuals with dysphagia.
