Supporting Individuals with Diabetes

Learn the skills and knowledge to confidently support individuals living with diabetes. Understand types, recognise signs and symptoms, manage medications, and respond effectively to complications such as hypo- or hyperglycaemia.

This Diabetes Awareness training provides practical knowledge and skills for support workers and carers. Participants will learn about the different types of diabetes, common signs and symptoms, diagnosis, management strategies, and how to prevent complications. The course also covers medication management, recognising and responding to hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia, and ketoacidosis, as well as caring for individuals and performing blood glucose monitoring and urinalysis.

This course is suitable for support workers and carers who provide care to individuals living with diabetes. Participants are expected to engage with all learning activities and apply the knowledge to support safe and effective care. No prior specialist knowledge is required.
