Lead the change. Embed the practice. Sustain the impact.
Fundamentals for Leaders is a practical leadership capability program designed for Inclusive Employment Australia providers implementing Fundamentals for Inclusive Employment.
The program equips leaders to move beyond course completion and actively support their teams to apply learning in practice. Through interactive workshops, leadership style insights and implementation planning, leaders learn how to coach staff, facilitate team reflection and embed the Explore–Progress–Deliver model into everyday service delivery.
Aligned to Fundamentals for Inclusive Employment, this program helps providers build internal champions who can strengthen team confidence, support consistent practice and sustain a learning culture across sites, teams and services.
Course Overview
Fundamentals for Leaders supports Inclusive Employment Australia providers to strengthen the implementation of Fundamentals for Inclusive Employment by developing the leaders who will guide, coach and sustain practice on the ground.
The program is designed for leaders who supervise, support or influence frontline employment consultants, job coaches, trainers and operational teams. It helps leaders understand their own leadership style, recognise how they show up under pressure, and use their strengths to support team learning, reflective practice and quality service delivery.
Rather than treating Fundamentals as a one-off training requirement, this program helps leaders turn the content into everyday conversations, coaching moments, team routines and performance practices. Leaders are supported to connect course concepts to organisational purpose, the IEA reform environment, quality expectations and the day-to-day realities of supporting participants, employers and community partners.
The program is delivered as three interactive 2-hour workshops, or over 1 day or as an adapted intensive format for provider cohorts.

Fundamentals for Leaders is structured around the same practical logic as the Explore–Progress–Deliver model, helping leaders first understand themselves, then facilitate learning with others, and finally embed sustainable practice.
Leading Self, Purpose & Style
This workshop focuses on the leader as an individual. Leaders explore their personal purpose, connect their “why” to inclusive employment practice, and review their leadership style and shadow behaviours.
Learning objectives
By the end of this workshop, leaders will:
- connect their personal motivation to inclusive employment practice
- understand how their leadership style influences team culture and learning
- identify their leadership strengths and shadow behaviours under pressure
- recognise how self-aware leadership supports better facilitation and coaching
- build trust and connection with other leaders in the cohort
- understand how leadership behaviours can model person-centred, rights-based practice
Facilitating Group Learning in Practice
This workshop helps leaders move from self-awareness into applied facilitation. Leaders learn how to guide team learning, use the Fundamentals workbook and facilitate reflective conversations that help staff apply learning in practice.
Learning objectives
By the end of this workshop, leaders will:
- understand the difference between delivering information and facilitating learning
- identify which Fundamentals workbook activities can be completed individually, in teams, in pairs or through supervision

- use facilitation techniques such as asking open questions, active listening and closing the loop
- adapt their facilitation approach to different team needs and leadership styles
- develop a practical plan for supporting team completion and application of Fundamentals
Coaching, Embedding and Sustaining Practice
This workshop focuses on turning learning into ongoing practice. Leaders practise coaching conversations, connect Fundamentals to quality and performance measures, and develop an implementation and sustainability plan.
Learning objectives
By the end of this workshop, leaders will:
- use coaching conversations to support staff reflection and problem-solving
- apply the Explore–Progress–Deliver model to staff supervision and team leadership
- connect Fundamentals learning to KPIs, quality practice and documentation expectations
- identify how to recognise and celebrate staff application of learning
- plan regular team routines that sustain reflective practice
- complete a practical implementation and sustainability plan for their team or site
Leadership style insight
Understand how you lead implementation
As part of the program, leaders complete a leadership style questionnaire that helps them understand their dominant leadership strengths and potential shadow behaviours under pressure.
The four leadership styles are:
Culture Builder
Builds trust, psychological safety and strong team relationships.
Outcome Leader
Drives action, momentum and results-focused implementation.
Quality Guardian
Creates structure, consistency and strong quality expectations.
Change Champion
Brings energy, adaptability and fresh thinking to implementation.
These leadership insights help leaders understand how they naturally support team learning, where they may need to flex, and how different leadership strengths can work together to embed Fundamentals across a provider workforce.
Course outcome
By the end of Fundamentals for Leaders, participants will have developed a practical leadership approach for embedding Fundamentals for Inclusive Employment across their team.
Leaders will leave with:
- a clearer understanding of their leadership style and shadow behaviours
- a stronger connection between personal purpose, organisational purpose and inclusive employment practice
- practical facilitation techniques for leading team learning
- strategies to coach staff through real cases and workbook activities
- a plan for embedding the Explore–Progress–Deliver model into daily routines
- an implementation and sustainability plan to support ongoing practice
- confidence to champion Fundamentals across their team, site or organisation
This gives providers a structured way to build internal leadership capability and sustain the impact of Fundamentals for Inclusive Employment beyond course completion.
