Effective first aid makes all the difference in a crisis. Learn how to save a life, reduce the seriousness of injuries and the likelihood of long-term complications.

Whether it’s a mandatory skill for your job or you want the ability to protect others when an emergency strikes, Provide First Aid will provide the accredited training you need.

This course includes the nationally accredited unit:

  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

A mandatory qualification for many jobs, this course delivers skills and knowledge to:

  • Identify, assess and minimise immediate hazards
  • Assess the casualty and identify injuries or conditions
  • Provide first aid management
  • Correctly operate first aid equipment
  • Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • Request ambulance support and/or appropriate medical assistance
  • Accurately report details of a casualty’s physical condition.

What will you learn?

You don’t need to be a health professional to make a difference in an emergency. During this course you will learn how to identify and minimise hazards, understand how to assess a casualty, identify injuries and manage the initial care response. Get experience in correctly operating first aid equipment and how to request appropriate paramedic assistance, knowing how to accurately communicate a casualty’s condition.

Entry requirements

  • Physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment
    • Students must demonstrate CPR on a manikin on the floor.

Study requirements

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements that are necessary for you to complete your course work and be successful:

  • Students will need to demonstrate that they have the appropriate language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills
  • Effective communication, documentation and research skills
  • Access to digital technologies (e.g. laptop, desktop, tablet-computer and/or smartphone) with basic digital literacy skills.

Digital literacy skills

Intermediate computer skills such as internet browsing, email, word processing, and presentation software.

Workstation setup

You will need a quiet space for study that has stable internet connection. You will also need:

  • Web camera, microphone and speakers
  • Smartphone
  • Earbuds or headphones
  • Zoom video conferencing software.

Please note: You will need to turn your camera and microphone on, as required when using video conferencing.

genU Training offer HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, in the following format:

Course component 1 – Self-paced interactive eLearning module (Online)

Timings: Access to eLearning modules and assessments available as per advertised course start date 

A self-paced eLearning module (takes 5-7 hours to complete), comprising of learning and assessment tasks.

NB: You must complete your eLearning modules and assessment and receive a satisfactory result no less than two (2) days before attending the on-campus session (Course component 2).

You will be contacted by your Training Coordinator:

  • should you not be deemed satisfactory on your first attempt at Course component 1 – you will be offered another attempt with trainer support (in next available session)
  • should you not be deemed satisfactory on your second attempt at Course component 1 – you will need to re-enrol (enrolment fees will apply).

Course component 2 – On-campus skills demonstration and assessment 

Timings: Your on-campus session will be scheduled one week later (same day of week)

One (1) day (9:30am – 4:30pm)

Time zones:  Local state time zones are observed
