This course comprises two modules aimed at enhancing your understanding of Occupational Violence and Aggression (OVA) within the disability sector. Throughout the course, you will learn to define OVA, recognise acceptable behaviours, and identify the various factors that contribute to incidents of aggression in different care settings. You will also explore and apply tailored de-escalation strategies, equipping you to effectively support individuals with disabilities. Additionally, you will develop a comprehensive OVA management plan that addresses the unique needs of the individuals you support, ensuring a person-centred approach to managing and mitigating the risks associated with OVA.

Module inclusions:
Definition of OVA: Understanding Occupational Violence and Aggression, including its scope and impact in various settings.
Acceptable Behaviour: Defining and promoting standards of behaviour that ensure respect, safety, and positive interactions in the workplace or educational environments.
De-Escalation Strategies: Techniques for effectively managing and reducing tension, including active listening, calm communication, and collaborative problem-solving.
Individual OVA Plan: Guidelines for creating a personalised plan to address and manage potential violence or aggression, including risk identification and behaviour management strategies.
There are no entry requirements for this microcredential. To complete the course, you will need basic digital literacy skills and access to a laptop, desktop computer or full-size tablet that is connected to the internet.
