With an increase in employment opportunities, our Housekeeping Essentials program will equip you with the knowledge you need to work in the industry.

You will gain skills in housekeeping , cleaning , food preparation and work safety practices .You will learn modern methods associated with the accommodation services industry and best practices to develop your career in this thriving field.

This course includes non-accredited content with the addition of the following nationally accredited unit(s):

  • SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • SITXWHS001 Participate in safe work practices


This course is delivered over 5 consecutive days, covering:

Day Session
Day 1 SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety

On Day 1 you will engage in practical activity and develop transferable skills and knowledge where you will learn to prevent contamination of food that might cause foodborne illnesses – you will be making your own lunch on this day.

Day 2 SITXWHS001 Participate in safe work practices

Gain the skills and knowledge required to incorporate safe work practices into workplace activities. Follow predetermined health, safety and security procedures and participate in organisational work health and safety (WHS) management practices.


Over the next 3 days participants will learn how to provide housekeeping and cleaning services to meet industry standards including:

  • Customer service and turn down services
  • Light cleaning including sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping and interior window cleaning
  • Kitchen cleaning, including wiping down counters, appliances, cabinet doors, and sinks
  • Bathroom cleaning, including toilets, mirrors, baths, and showers
  • Changing bed linens and making up beds
  • Restocking tissues, toilet paper and removing recycling and garbage.


Digital Badge – Housekeeping Essentials

Upon successful completion, you will earn a recognised Training U For Work microcredential which is a great addition to your resume and can be verified by an employer anywhere, any time!

Upon successful completion, a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment will be issued for the following units of competency:

  • SITXFSA001 Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • SITXWHS001 Participate in safe work practices

Study requirements

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements that are necessary for you to complete your course work and be successful:

  • Students will need to demonstrate that they have the appropriate language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills



Students may only attend on-site if they can verify they are:

  • fully vaccinated; or
  • under the age of 18 or medically exempt from vaccination; or
  • undertaking secondary school subjects; or
  • required to participate in hands-on skills-based learning/assessments which cannot be conducted remotely
