Develop your work skills for the retail industry

This course is designed to support post-school-age students with permanent intellectual disabilities to develop the skills necessary to explore work options and access pathways to further vocational education and training. It provides students with opportunities to improve employability and work readiness skills with a focus towards the retail sector. Practice skills in real work environments through a work placement while learning essential skills to support your independence and to develop an individual education plan focused on personal strengths.  Students extend and consolidate their learning and knowledge of the workforce by exploring job opportunities and work expectations.

You’ll gain valuable professional experience through an 80 hour work placement which will allow you to put your theoretical learning into practice.

 

 

 

 

 


 

To be awarded 22481VIC Certificate II in Work Education, a student must successfully complete a total of eight (8) units of competency, consisting of:

  • three (3) core units, and;
  • one (1) WHS / OHS stream unit and;
  • four (4) elective units.

Where the course is not completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any completed units.

genU Training delivers the electives listed in the ‘Elective units’ below. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, student pathways and/or student and trainer/assessor feedback. Alternative suitable electives are only available via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT).

Work placement

To achieve this qualification, a student must complete a minimum of 80 hours of work placement.

Entry requirements

Entry to the 22481VIC Certificate II in Work Education is restricted to post compulsory school age learners with evidence of a permanent cognitive impairment / intellectual disability.

Permanent cognitive impairment / intellectual disability must be evidenced. Evidence could include but is not limited to:

  • Formal assessment by a registered medical practitioner
  • Doctors / specialist reports
  • Attendance at a Special School / SDS
  • Integration support at school
  • Integration support at school with modified curriculum

While learners may also have the following conditions, these alone do not constitute a permanent cognitive impairment / intellectual disability:

  • Social and / or emotional issues
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Specific learning difficulties
  • Mental health conditions
  • Physical disabilities

Study requirements

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements that are necessary for you to complete your course work and be successful:

  • Access to digital technologies (e.g. laptop, desktop, tablet-computer and/or smartphone) with basic digital literacy skills
  • Students will need to demonstrate that they have the appropriate language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills

 


 

Victoria

While students and other visitors attending onsite (excluding paid or volunteer workers) are no longer required to show evidence that they have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccination, those undertaking placements must continue to adhere to the vaccination mandate that applies to their sector and/or their placement host.

This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding for eligible individuals. We encourage students with a disability to access government subsidised training. There may also be other charges such as material or amenities fees. genU Training offer 22481VIC Certificate II in Work Education, in the following format:

On-campus (day)  – Study face to face (in a classroom setting)

        • 2 days per week (9:30am – 3:30pm) for 10 months approx; or
        • 3 days per week (9:30am – 3:30pm) for 7 months approx.

 

NB: All study modes require students to access and undertake additional activities, including: research activities, reflections and assessments via the Learning Management System (LMS).
