The Bar Service Essentials program includes the following nationally accredited units:

  • SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol
  • SITXFIN007 Process financial transactions

Day Session
Day 1
9:30am – 4:00pm
SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety

Prevent contamination of food that might cause foodborne illnesses – you will be making your own lunch on this day!

  • Learn about personal hygiene and cleaning practices to prevent contamination of food.
  • Develop the skills to identify and control food hazards.
  • Understand relevant food safety laws, standards, and codes.
  • Develop skills using hands-on food preparation techniques.
Day 2
9:30am – 4:00pm
SITXFIN007 Process financial transactions

Process cash and other payments for products and services. Modern computerised EFT training.

  • Prepare and record cash float
  • Operate an EFTPOS machine
  • Check customer sales, print and issue receipts
  • Provide correct change
  • Count and record reconciliation
  • Investigate reconciliation discrepancies.
Day 3
9:30am – 4:00pm
SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol

  • Help ensure the safe consumption of alcohol. Face-to-face RSA training is mandatory for licensees and staff selling, offering, or serving liquor for general, on-premises, late night, and packaged liquor licences.
  • Keeping the lid on liquor. Learn the skills and knowledge required to responsibly sell or serve alcohol.
Day 4
9:30am – 4:00pm
Cocktail Mixology

  • A 6-hour training session in a simulated bar environment.
  • Theoretical assessments pertaining to cocktail making equipment, glassware, presentation, flavours, and the process in cocktail making.
  • A research project investigating how to make 6 popular cocktails including ingredients, procedure, and presentation.
  • A practical session demonstrating how to correctly create 6 popular cocktails which were previously researched.
Day 5
9:30am – 4:00pm
Upselling, beer pouring and wine basics

  • The attributes of an effective food and beverage salesperson.
  • Selling skills including types, techniques and closing sales.
  • Knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits to effectively approach selling with confidence.
  • Knowledge of sales points within the service cycle to sell these beverage options.
  • Knowledge of situations in which differing selling types and techniques can be utilised.

On successful completion, learners will receive a Statement of Attainment for all accredited units.
