Before Parminder began studying CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability at genU Training, she was struggling to find work. Getting ongoing employment to support her four-year-old daughter was important, but Parminder found that her hearing impairment was making her job search difficult.
Enrolling in the course allowed Parminder to gain work experience, as well as a formal nationally recognised qualification. Completing industry placements gave Parminder hands-on practice in personal care as well as experience in organising programs and activities for people of all abilities.
Studying with genU Training has given Parminder an opportunity to learn and gain employment without judgement.
“genU Training is a family environment where you’re really appreciated,” Parminder said.
“Without it I may still be struggling for work. Whenever I tried to apply for jobs before and told them about my hearing impairment they stopped responding, whereas genU understands me very well.”
Parminder describes now working for genU as a personal support worker as a dream come true. She loves learning from her clients, and finds going to work each day incredibly rewarding.
“After finishing studies with genU Training and now working with genU as a personal support worker I feel lucky and more confident,” Parminder said.
Completing CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability has also allowed Parminder to work towards her next goal, which is to complete a Diploma of Nursing.
Courses at genU Training (TOID 5553) are now available.
