Cindy was searching for direction in her life when she found genU Training. As a recovering addict, she knew she could use her past experience to positively impact the lives of other people struggling with addiction by studying a CHC43215 Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs.
During the course Cindy completed a placement at the Salvation Army. As a whole, the opportunity to interact with other people wanting to turn their lives around as well as educating young people on the dangers of drugs and alcohol have been the most rewarding parts of completing the certificate.
“I love what I do because I am a recovering addict and feel very passionate about helping others to find freedom from addiction and turn their lives around, just as I have done,” Cindy said.
“I’ve been able to use my experience, and have also done talks to students.”
Now three years into her recovery, Cindy is able to provide an empathetic understanding to people facing addiction.
“I believe that my lived experience is of great value as I am able to relate to the struggles that individuals face when it comes to substance abuse and its relative issues,” Cindy said.
Cindy describes her decision to study at genU Training as a positive one, and was impressed by the inclusive and empowering environment it provided.
“The staff at genU have been very supportive and encouraging, providing me with a wealth of knowledge and enabling me to gain the necessary skills required for me to achieve my goals,” Cindy said.
“They treat you like people, not like students.”
